The Evolution of DevTalks Cluj-Napoca: From First Edition to the 9th

On September 24th, 2026, at Cluj Innovation Park, DevTalks Cluj-Napoca reaches its 9th edition. It's a good moment to look back and see how the event has grown, year after year from a technical forum with a few hundred attendees into one of Transylvania's most important tech gathering points.

The Beginnings: A Small but Determined Community

DevTalks launched in Bucharest in 2014, as a conference dedicated to developers and IT professionals interested in the latest trends across Web, Mobile, IoT, Cloud Computing, and Big Data. Its success there carried over to Cluj-Napoca almost immediately: as early as 2015, DevTalks brought its first edition to the city, and events in both locations have run in parallel ever since, as part of the same story.

The second Cluj-Napoca edition took place in May 2016, gathering around 800 attendees and 40 local speakers, structured across 4 stages and 6 dedicated areas of content Women in Tech, Education, Developers Workshops, Working Remotely from a Conference, Mobility, and of course our Start-ups Alley, which brought fresh ideas straight into the heart of the dev community.

Growth: More Attendees, Different Profiles, Larger Areas of Content to Meet Your Needs

As Cluj-Napoca's IT ecosystem matured, DevTalks matured with it not by simply adding more stages, but by rethinking what the community actually needed. By the 6th edition, in September 2023, the event had grown to over 1200 developers and IT professionals, with 30+ international speakers from companies like Amazon Web Services and Apple, across two focused stages Main Stage, dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, and Programming Stage, covering Java, DevOps, Big Data, and Cybersecurity. This edition also marked the community's physical return to Cluj-Napoca after the pandemic and despite some nerves going in, seeing over 1200 attendees show up was clear proof of just how strong the Dev community had remained across the whole country.

Just two years later, at the 8th edition in 2025, the numbers had roughly doubled: over 2500 attendees, 50+ international and local speakers, and a third stage added Java Stage dedicated entirely to the Java ecosystem. The event's scope also expanded significantly, adding Machine Learning, Robotics, IoT, Future of Engineering, and Product World alongside the classic topics.

A Story of Reinvention: From Cluj Innovation Park to DevTalks Reimagined

DevTalks Cluj-Napoca found its home at Cluj Innovation Park back in 2019. Then came the pandemic but DevTalks didn't stop. Just three months after the world went into lockdown, the team reshaped the entire event into DevTalks Reimagined, a fully online format that, if anything, made the community more accessible than ever: over 25 countries and 15 cities joined in, well beyond what any physical venue could have hosted. Credit where credit's due that pivot was less a pause and more a genuine innovation. As in-person events returned, DevTalks Cluj-Napoca came back to Cluj Innovation Park in 2023, carrying forward the momentum and the wider reach built during those online years.

2026: The 9th Edition, We're Back in the Same Venue, But the Topics Catch the Latest Market Evolution

For the 9th edition, DevTalks Cluj-Napoca stays at Cluj Innovation Park on September 24th, 2026, with over 2500 attendees expected, 30+ speakers, and the same three established stages Main Stage, Java Stage, and Programming Stage complemented by an expo area with over 25 partners, plus two spaces: TechEdu Area, for kids aged 6 to 16, and Roundtable Area, for hands-on masterclasses in small groups.

This year's agenda also catches up with where the market is heading: AI topics are woven throughout, both on the main stages and inside the Roundtable Area, alongside the community's established favorites.

The Roundtable Area deserves a closer look. It's built for small-group learning: attendees work directly with international trainers, in hands-on workshops covering skills you can apply straight away from modern Java frameworks and AI-driven development, to clean software architecture and cloud-native practices, all grounded in real production scenarios rather than slides. Because the groups stay small, there's real room for specific questions and discussions applied to each attendee's own work context not just a one-way presentation.

What Hasn't Changed

Beyond the numbers, venues, and new stages, one thing has stayed constant since 2015: DevTalks Cluj-Napoca has always been built around its local community. Every edition has brought together developers, engineers, students, and entrepreneurs from Transylvania, in a space designed to connect people just as much as it delivers content on stage.
