Meet Francesco Ciulla - Developer Advocate at daily.dev
Friday 23 May, 2025
All the way from Italy to Romania, Francesco Ciulla is joining the Web Stage at the leading tech conference in CEE with an engaging keynote on "Rust and web development". During the 45-minute session, he will also have a mini Q&A at the end, but he's already answered some questions in this interview. Check it out here!
1. Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
Hi I am Francesco, an Italian Developer, Content Creator and Teacher, very passionate about creating videos!
2. How did you get into what you’re doing right now, career wise?
Long story short, I went from sports coach, to a fullstack-developer position, and since covid, I started sharing my journey online, then I started my YouTube channel and then I started public speaking.
3. In your view, what do you think is the biggest change that shaped the tech industry of today?
I am not surprising anyone saying AI here, because it's the simple truth. I am old enough to remember the "Terminator" series (highly recommended), but we were used to laugh about this in the 90s. Now it's the truth and we need to face very quick changes in a very short time, and that's super challenging.
4. If you weren’t working in tech, what do you think you’d be doing?
I would probably still be creating videos, maybe a different style, or livestreaming every day about gaming, life and travelling.
5. What’s a project you’re most proud of and why?
My YouTube channel. I started it in August 2020 and I never stopped, it's like a lab where I can experiment things and create what I want. It's a whole gigantic project made of many projects!
6. If you could invent any piece of technology that doesn't currently exist, what would it be and why?
An AI cameraman robot that can help me shoot videos.
7. What is something you’re looking forward to at DevTalks 2025?
Meeting the team again, do my talk of course and creating some video content from the conference!
8. In your opinion, what’s a technology that’s overhyped? And one that’s underrated?
Overhyped: AI IDEs. There are too many now, I think that VS Code will just become the de facto standard again.
Underrated: Rust, this programming language will become more adopted and we are not even getting started.
9. If you could time-travel to any point in history with a piece of modern technology, where would you go and what would you bring?
Ancient Rome with a laptop and solar batteries to show how you could build the city properly and not get so much traffic in the future!
10. If you could switch lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
I am happy with my life, so no one :).
11. What message do you have for our Romanian IT community?
The Romanian Community is amazing and I really enjoy coming to Devtalks! Keep coding and creating things, and your future will be as bright as our warm seasons!
Now that you know about Francesco's passion for teaching and Rust, surely you don't want to miss his keynote. See you on June 4th-5th at DevTalks.
