Whilst not a panacea for your development troubles (but certainly a headache for many), Test Driven Development (or any of its incarnations) can prove something of a silver bullet if done correctly and consistently. Cleaner code and shorter QA cycles are two of the best benefits. In this session, Paul will get you started with TDD in Swift, best practices and tools available. We’ll be looking at prototyping & writing tests in Xcode Playgrounds before migrating to a project, the benefit of writing various types of tests and using 3rd party frameworks.

15:15 - 15:55 15:15 - 15:55 Microservices & Frontends – everyone should have a BFF! 15:15 - 15:55

Users expect our applications to be fast. Having a fast backend is great but when you use microservice, you quickly end up having to make a number of calls to populate your frontend, which costs time and roundtrips. In this session, we will take machine learning and hidden markov models for a spin in order to predict what the frontend needs from our backend. That way, our backend becomes a BFF (Backend for Frontend) and improves the perceived performance and, thus, our user’s happiness.

16:10 - 16:50 16:10 - 16:50 Jest Testing Patterns 16:10 - 16:50

16:50 - 17:20 16:50 - 17:20 WebAssembly brings the Web to a new era 16:50 - 17:20

WebAssembly is a low-level binary format running the browser. It allows developers to create highly efficient applications, where performance is close to native. WebAssembly is a new compilation target for the Web, allowing us to compile from C/C++ and other statically typed languages. Furthermore, it creates a standardized base for reusing code between Web and native. In this talk we will examine WebAssembly and discuss how it is going to change the Web.

Specifically, 3D object tracking methods will be described and compared to a greater extent in order to highlight the advantages (and the limits) of each method with respect to various real world settings. Finally, some of the most relevant use cases will be presented with reference to the Industrial, Cultural Heritage and Automotive sectors.
